About MAC
I'm Mac.
My name is W. Chad McPhail. I teach high school English, Creative Writing, Publishing, and Journalism. In 2007 I was elected Teacher of the Year in Amarillo after having taught for five years in my district. I wrote my own Creative Writing and Publishing curriculum and feel that kids learn to manipulate language best in a print-rich environment. My kids publish real books, newspapers, articles and poetry in and out of my classroom.
I spend those freed up summers kickin' it in the sticks, exploring the outdoors, talking to trout. Fly fishing, backpacking, camping, hiking, trail running and kayaking all keep me busy, fit, and learning about our habitat in the wild. Oh yeah, I wrote a lot in summer too. Many of my outdoor articles have been featured in magazines such as Southwest Fly Fishing, ESPN.com/OUTDOORS, Texas Fish and Game, Rocky Mountain Game and Fish, The Amarillo Globe (outdoor sports articles), The Angling Report, and more.
My book titles include Finding the Madstone, Between Fact and Fishin', 201 Tips for the Camping Family, Magical Tragedy, Los Dos Barrios, and Publishing Students' Writing Using Print on Demand Technology.
And yeah, somehow i got roped into this deal of co-writing these fly fishing books with the aforementioned Mr. Williams due out in early 2010, a new approach to how-to fly fish, and our Mark and Mac show goes on the road to the Mile High State as we write Home Bases, Fishing Places--Colorado.
My kind of place...beautiful.
