North Heights Students Publish Two iBooks
North Heights Alternative School now has two ebooks available on Apple’s iBooks. Both books were originally published and sold through traditional brick and mortar bookstores like Barnes and Noble. These books are now available for download on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iBooks and on your computer with iTunes. Books must be read on an iOS device.
Voices from the Heights is an anthology of works from at-risk students at innovative, award-winning North Heights Alternative School in Amarillo, Texas. The stories are often gritty & personal but these young writers are courageous, creative & talented.Paintings on the Wall is the follow-up book to the wildly (and surprisingly) popular Voices From the Heights. This is a collection of works, essays, poems and other cool writings from the students and staff of North Heights Alternative School in Amarillo Texas. The book is truthful, blunt and reflects those things that today's teens are talking about and living through.

About Me, Mark D Williams
I have published hundreds of articles and photos the last twenty years in magazines, newspapers, online publications including Texas Sporting Journal, Backpacker, Men’s Health, Dallas Morning News, Cowboys and Indians, Southwest Fly Fishing, ESPN, SPORT, Gorp.com, Outdoorsite.com, Texas Fish and Game, Baseball Digest, Amarillo Globe News and many more.
I have published numerous books and my latest, So Many Fish So Little Time: The 1001 Best Places on Earth to Fish from Harper Collins. Other books include Trout Fishing Sourcebook, The Backpacking Flyfisher, Flyfishing Southwestern Colorado, Knots for Flyfishers and Freshwater Flyfishing Tips from the Pros (Fireside/Simon and Schuster.) My wife Amy and I finished up two books with Wayfinder Press and I'm working on this one with McPhail for Johnson Books.
I have recently completed my first novel, The Bedside Diaries.
recent three at North Heights Alternative School (English 9-12 and Speech)
My name is W. Chad McPhail. I teach high school English, Creative Writing, Publishing, and Journalism. In 2007 I was elected Teacher of the Year in Amarillo after having taught for five years in my district. I wrote my own Creative Writing and Publishing curriculum and feel that kids learn to manipulate language best in a print-rich environment. My kids publish real books, newspapers, articles and poetry in and out of my classroom.
I spend those freed up summers kickin' it in the sticks, exploring the outdoors, talking to trout. Fly fishing, backpacking, camping, hiking, trail running and kayaking all keep me busy, fit, and learning about our habitat in the wild. Oh yeah, I wrote a lot in summer too. Many of my outdoor articles have been featured in magazines such as Southwest Fly Fishing, ESPN.com/OUTDOORS, Texas Fish and Game, Rocky Mountain Game and Fish, The Amarillo Globe (outdoor sports articles), The Angling Report, and more.
My book titles include Finding the Madstone, Between Fact and Fishin', 201 Tips for the Camping Family, Magical Tragedy, Los Dos Barrios, and Publishing Students' Writing Using Print on Demand Technology.
And yeah, somehow i got roped into this deal of co-writing these fly fishing books with the aforementioned Mr. Williams due out in early 2010, a new approach to how-to fly fish, and our Mark and Mac show goes on the road to the Mile High State as we write Home Bases, Fishing Places--Colorado.
